COVID-19 Response & School Reopening

At LILA, we are eager and ready to reopen once K – 12 schools in LA County receive clearance to hold in-person classes. Currently, LA County has still not managed to bring COVID-19 cases down to a threshold that would allow schools to reopen.

School resumed on Wednesday, August 26. We are holding in-person classes for preschool and Pre-K to accommodate our youngest students. Students in K – 12th grade have begun the year via remote e-Learning. This webpage will serve as your information hub regarding reopening timelines and protocols.

Latest Head of School Communications/Updates

Dear LILA LA Community,

Thank you to all of our families who joined us virtually for last night’s weekly Head of School briefing and K – 5th grade-level breakout meetings.

As mentioned during the briefing, LA County remains in the Widespread (purple) category in the State Reopening Framework. This means that LILA’s LA campuses will not reopen for in-person K-12 learning before Tuesday, October 6, at the earliest.

If your family has not yet had an opportunity to complete the K-12 remote parallel learning survey, we kindly ask that you do so before the survey closes at 11:59pm (PDT) tonight, Wednesday, September 16. Your responses will help us get a sense of how many families in our community feel comfortable for their children to return in person and how many would prefer the remote parallel learning option.

Warm regards,

Michael Maniska
Head of School

Dear LILA LA Community,

Thank you to all of our families who participated in last night’s weekly Head of School briefing. As mentioned during the briefing, we are all very eager to welcome your children and our faculty back to campus. As of today, LA County remains in the Widespread (purple) category in the State Reopening Framework, meaning LILA’s LA campuses will not reopen for in-person K-12 learning before Tuesday, October 6, at the earliest.

We continue to be committed to reopening as soon as is safe and practicable, but also understand that some of our families would prefer to keep their children home for a while longer. For that reason, LILA will offer a remote parallel learning option for Kindergarten through 12th grade, which will start once our campuses reopen for in-person K-12 instruction. For a glimpse at how remote parallel learning will work, please watch this video demonstration of the tool we will be using to make the experience as immersive and engaging as possible.

As we look forward to the eventual reopening of our campuses, we would like to get a sense of how many families in our community feel comfortable for their children to return in person and how many would prefer the remote parallel learning option. We kindly ask that all families let us know their preference by completing this short survey before Wednesday, September 16 at 11:59pm (PDT). A survey response does not constitute a commitment at this point but will support our staff and faculty in planning for our K-12 in-person return.

Thank you for your engagement,

Michael Maniska

Dear LILA LA Community,

Thank you to the almost 400 people who joined us for last night’s first weekly Back-to-School virtual briefing. These will be held every Tuesday evening at 5:00pm, and the school-wide and campus-specific links will be available in your Mosaïque each week.

This is our second Weekly Wednesday Update message for K-12 families. LA County is in the Widespread (purple) category in the recently-released State Reopening Framework. This means that LILA’s LA campuses will not reopen for in-person K-12 learning before Tuesday, September 29, at the earliest. Details of the new State Reopening Framework can be found here.

Until our next message we encourage you to visit our COVID-19 Response & School Reopening page for access to all Weekly Wednesday Updates, our health & safety measures and reopening protocols, and more.

Warm regards,
